Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 28 (NationPress) In a significant move, the Kerala Police has issued a look-out circular against the suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil to stop him from fleeing the country. This action follows serious allegations including rape, criminal intimidation, digital blackmail, and forced abortion detailed in an FIR.
The case, initially filed at Valiyamala Police Station and subsequently transferred to Nemom Police Station, has gained political sensitivity as elections approach.
The FIR outlines that Mamkootathil is accused of assaulting the victim twice at a residence, capturing the incidents on his mobile device, and threatening her life if she disclosed the events.
It is also reported that he took the victim to another residence in Palakkad, where he used the recorded videos to intimidate her and allegedly assaulted her again.
The survivor provided a detailed statement spanning 20 pages, recorded over five and a half hours, claiming Mamkootathil enticed her with marriage promises, exploited his political clout, and later claimed that a pregnancy would ruin his political aspirations.
According to the FIR, on May 30, 2025, one of Mamkootathil's associates allegedly picked up the survivor from Kaithamukku in Thiruvananthapuram and administered abortion pills, reportedly obtained from Bengaluru, to her in a vehicle.
Mamkootathil confirmed the ingestion of the pills through a video call. Investigators have indicated that medical documentation and digital evidence substantiate the forced abortion accusations, which could lead to a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison under Section 89 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Two individuals have been implicated: Mamkootathil and his associate, Joby Joseph from Adoor, whose phone is currently off and is suspected of going into hiding.
Mamkootathil is facing multiple charges under various sections of the BNS, including rape, repeated sexual assault, harassment, abuse of power, forced abortion, and betrayal of trust, as well as provisions of the IT Act related to electronic intimidation.
In response to these developments, Congress MP and UDF Convenor Adoor Prakash remarked, "Every election season, the CPI(M) seems to conjure up a 'victim' to exploit the situation. The people of Kerala are now well aware of how similar cases have unfolded in previous elections. This is not unprecedented. We have already acted against Mamkootathil, and now let justice take its course.”
The investigation, spearheaded by the Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP, is currently focused on locating the accused, validating digital evidence, and tracing the origins of the abortion medication, as the political climate grows increasingly tumultuous.
