New Delhi, May 28 (NationPress) In a significant turn of events for former SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch, the Lokpal has dismissed allegations of conflict of interest and improper financial benefits against her stemming from a report by the now-defunct Hindenburg Research.
The Lokpal, led by former Supreme Court Justice A.M. Khanwilkar (retd), concluded that there was no prima facie evidence to support the claims.
The anti-corruption authority characterized the allegations as baseless, unsubstantiated, and lacking credible proof.
In response to the accusations that emerged in August 2024, Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch vehemently refuted the allegations, labeling it a “character assassination attempt” amid an Enforcement action and a show cause notice issued to the Nate Anderson-led firm the previous month.
In a joint statement, the couple asserted, “In light of the allegations presented in the Hindenburg Report dated August 10, 2024, against us, we firmly deny the unfounded claims and insinuations made in the report.”
“These allegations are completely devoid of truth. Our lives and finances are an open book. All required disclosures have been provided to SEBI throughout the years. We are willing to share any and all financial documents, including those from the time we were private citizens, with any authority that requests them,” read the joint statement.
“It is regrettable that Hindenburg Research, against whom SEBI has initiated enforcement action and issued a show cause notice, has opted for a character assassination attempt in retaliation.”
