Ranchi, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Jharkhand Police have initiated legal proceedings against Mahua Maji, a member of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the Rajya Sabha, concerning an infringement of the Model Code of Conduct.
The legal document was presented in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Ranchi, which has acknowledged the case and set a hearing date for February 15.
This situation stems from the recent Assembly elections, where Mahua Maji contested as a JMM candidate for the Ranchi Assembly seat. A complaint was lodged by Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, the polling agent for BJP candidate and current MLA C.P. Singh, who alleged a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Following this complaint, Munshi Ram, the Ranchi Zone CO, filed an FIR in November at the Hindpiri police station. An investigation led to the conclusion that the charges were substantiated, prompting the filing of a charge sheet.
The FIR states that on November 7, 2024, around 5 p.m., the Assistant Returning Officer and Zonal Officer in Ranchi conducted an inquiry concerning alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
The inquiry uncovered that promotional posters and banners for Mahua Maji had been unlawfully displayed on government electricity poles across multiple locations, including Bada Talab Mor, Mangal Chowk, Marwari College, and Hindpiri’s Teesri Gali Budhiya Bagan area. The police later confiscated and removed these materials.
Displaying electoral posters and banners on public infrastructure without the necessary permissions is a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
In a different case of Model Code infringement, Sanjay Prasad Yadav, the Minister for Labour, Employment, and Skill Development in Jharkhand, appeared before the Dumka court on Wednesday. During this hearing, a witness's testimony was documented in the court presided over by SDJM Mohit Chaudhary.
This particular case pertains to the 2014 Assembly elections and was registered at the Pathargama police station in Godda district.
