Kolkata, May 26 (NationPress) On the celebration of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's birth anniversary, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized the importance of fostering stronger Hindu-Muslim unity within the nation.
In a message shared on her official X account on Monday, she quoted the poet's lines: “Mora eki brinte duti kusum Hindu-Musalman,” which signifies that Hindus and Muslims are akin to two flowers blooming on the same stalk.
The Chief Minister highlighted the initiatives undertaken by her administration over the past 14 years to honor the revered poet, affectionately known as the “Bidrohi Kobi” or rebel poet.
“In tribute to Kazi Nazrul, we have established Kazi Nazrul University in Asansol, close to where he was born, and our new Greenfield airport in Andal is named Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport. Additionally, we created 'Nazrul Tirtha' and the 'West Bengal Kazi Nazrul Islam Academy'. We have also published numerous research books on his work. The poet remains a timeless beacon during challenging times!
Regarding communal harmony, the party’s and Chief Minister’s positions are clear, especially in light of the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, as clarified by a senior Trinamool Congress leader who preferred to remain unnamed.
“Our party fully supports all measures initiated by the Union government aimed at ensuring national security. There is unanimous agreement within our ranks on this front. Simultaneously, we stand firmly opposed to any attempts by opportunistic groups to exploit the current scenario to sow discord between the two communities. This sentiment was subtly conveyed in the Chief Minister's message,” he stated.
The Chief Minister has maintained a notably cautious stance regarding comments on Operation Sindoor, which involved the Indian Armed Forces targeting nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Some Trinamool Congress leaders who made unguarded remarks about the operation faced reprimands from party leadership.
