Kolkata, June 11 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress administration in West Bengal, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is likely to be remembered for its extensive corruption, including the teachers’ recruitment scam and various atrocities against women, such as those in Sandeshkhali, stated Bhupender Yadav, the Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, during a media interaction here on Tuesday.
“In addition to corruption, the government under Mamata Banerjee will also be notorious for the large-scale misappropriation of central funds allocated under different centrally sponsored schemes. Reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) indicate that utilization certificates for projects worth ₹2,00,000 crore in West Bengal are still pending. Where has this money gone?” Yadav remarked.
He accused the state government and the ruling Trinamool Congress of facilitating the settlement of illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh in West Bengal, asserting that the state is obstructing central forces from identifying and addressing these infiltrators.
Using Sandeshkhali as a case in point, Yadav lamented that it is deeply unfortunate that in a state led by a woman Chief Minister, women have had to endure such disgraceful treatment for an extended period.
Yadav also highlighted police inaction in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district, where communal violence erupted in April following protests against the newly introduced Waqf (Amendment) Act.
“This government exhibits inactivity when it comes to protecting women from such atrocities. The state government remains silent while properties are burned and vandalized,” Yadav stated.
He further claimed that when the Narendra Modi-led Union government sought to implement welfare projects for the people of West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee administration obstructed these efforts. For instance, the Ayushman Bharat scheme could not be executed in West Bengal due to the state's objections.
