Sukma, June 12 (NationPress) In a significant advancement in the relentless anti-Maoist initiatives in Chhattisgarh, security forces have discovered the remains of two high-ranking Maoists following a fierce encounter in the dense forests of Dunampara Pusgunna within the Kukanar police jurisdiction in Sukma district, officials reported on Thursday.
The deceased have been named as Muchaki Baman, a commander of the Katekalyan Area Committee with a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, and Anita Avalam, a senior Maoist cadre, both regarded as crucial figures in the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist organization.
Baman was from Chikpal under the Katekalyan police area in Dantewada district, while Avalam originated from the Bijapur region, according to officials.
The collaborative team, consisting of members from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and local police, initiated the operation based on intelligence reports indicating Maoist activity in the hilly jungles associated with the Katekalyan Area Committee.
As stated by Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan, the gunfight commenced around 2 p.m. and continued for several hours, officials noted.
Along with the two corpses, security forces confiscated an INSAS rifle, a Bharmar firearm, and a substantial stockpile of explosives and Maoist paraphernalia from the scene.
The materials seized include four gelatin sticks, ten detonators, seventeen rounds of INSAS ammunition, five cartridges of 12-bore ammunition, a soap bomb, a tiffin bomb, wire coils, safety fuses, and other incriminating items.
Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range), Sundarraj P, remarked that this operation is part of a sustained effort against Maoist extremism in the area.
He mentioned that between January 2024 and June 2025, security forces in the Bastar division have retrieved the bodies of 411 Maoists through coordinated efforts.
According to him, forces such as the DRG, Special Task Force, Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and the Bastar Fighters are resolutely working under the banner of 'Sankalp: Naxal Mukt Bastar Mission'.
IGP Sundarraj emphasized that the Maoist movement, once a symbol of fear and disruption in Bastar, is now showing signs of diminishing.
