Mumbai, Sep 11 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday that the state government has released a government resolution (GR) on September 2 aimed at providing Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas who possess valid Kunbi registration. He emphasized that this resolution is not a general reservation for all but is intended solely for those who can substantiate their claims as legitimate Kunbis.
Fadnavis commented, "The GR issued by the government has undergone thorough scrutiny. It is legally sound and will not disadvantage the OBC community in any manner. The intent is not to grant blanket reservations but to facilitate the issuance of certificates to verified Kunbis only."
When asked about potential protests by OBC groups in Mumbai, CM Fadnavis stated that such actions are unnecessary.
“I am actively engaging with various OBC leaders to clarify the GR. They have expressed their satisfaction. However, if individuals choose to engage in political maneuvers, I cannot intervene,” he remarked.
His comments follow an appeal from NCP minister and Samata Parishad founder Chhagan Bhujbal, urging him to reconsider or amend the GR, which he believes was hurriedly issued under pressure from a powerful community without proper Cabinet discussion or consideration of public feedback.
Bhujbal stated that this could adversely affect OBC reservations. CM Fadnavis also responded to two petitions filed in the high court challenging the September 2 GR.
Previously, CM Fadnavis asserted that Marathas will receive their rightful benefits, while OBCs will similarly secure their entitlements. He assured that there would be no conflict between the two communities.
Clarifying further, he noted: “Marathwada was not under British rule but was governed by the Nizam. Therefore, documentation regarding castes in this region is unique and primarily found in the Hyderabad Gazette. We have recognized this evidence, ensuring that only verified Kunbis will receive the certificate. Thus, only those with rightful claims will benefit, as the government resolution is designed to prevent any misinformation.”
