Mumbai, Sep 11 (NationPress) - Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday that the state government had issued a government resolution (GR) on September 2 concerning the provision of Kunbi caste certificates specifically for Marathas possessing Kunbi registration. He emphasized that this resolution does not extend reservation to the general populace; instead, it is designed to assist in issuing certificates solely to those who can substantiate their claims as genuine Kunbis.
Fadnavis informed the press, stating, “The GR released by the government has been meticulously evaluated. It is lawful and will ensure that no injustice is done to the OBC community. This GR does not grant blanket reservation; it facilitates certificate issuance exclusively to verified Kunbis.”
When questioned about OBC organizations planning a march in Mumbai, CM Fadnavis remarked that such actions are unnecessary. “I am actively engaging with various OBC leaders to clarify the GR, and they seem content. However, if individuals wish to pursue political agendas, I cannot intervene,” he noted.
This declaration from CM Fadnavis comes amidst appeals from NCP minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who has requested a reconsideration or withdrawal of the GR. Bhujbal criticized the GR's swift issuance, suggesting it was under duress from a powerful community and lacked proper Cabinet discussion or consideration of objections.
CM Fadnavis responded to the concerns raised, particularly as two petitions challenging the September 2 GR have been submitted to the high court. He had earlier assured that Marathas would receive their rights, while OBCs would be granted theirs, stating, “There will be no conflict between the two communities.”
In his remarks, he also highlighted that “Marathwada was never under British rule but rather under Nizam's control. Therefore, caste evidence in this region is uniquely documented in the Hyderabad Gazette. Only verified Kunbis will be eligible for this certificate, and thus only those deserving will benefit. The GR is structured to prevent any false claims.”
