Guwahati, Nov 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, emphasized on Wednesday that education continues to be a paramount focus for the state government, while recognizing that the sector faces several obstacles.
During an event in Sohra, Sangma stated, “The education sector is highly intricate due to systemic structural issues. Even with substantial investments, these hurdles have hampered our pursuit of providing the quality education we aim for.”
He remarked that initiatives to optimize and reform the system have commenced, including the rationalization of schools, which he believes will pave the way for gradual enhancements.
Sangma stressed a child-centric approach, urging schools, educators, and management committees to prioritize students in all decision-making processes. “Let the student be the determining factor—not solely what benefits teachers or institutions, but what truly serves the child,” he articulated.
The Chief Minister made these comments at the opening of the Ramakrishna Mission College in Sohra, the first college established by the Mission in the Northeast, which is affiliated with Captain Williamson Sangma State University.
The inauguration was attended by notable figures including Sohra MLA Gavin Mylliem, Shella MLA Balajied Kupar Synrem, and Swami Achyuteshananda, Trustee of RK Math & Mission.
Sangma commended the Mission’s contributions, highlighting its dedication to holistic education and character development. “The Ramakrishna Mission cultivates children to evolve into disciplined, diligent, and empathetic citizens with strong values,” he remarked.
He further asserted that investment in human capital is the most significant investment a government or society can undertake.
Sangma assured that the infrastructural challenges faced by Mission schools—such as road access, electricity, and water—will be resolved individually. Expressing appreciation for the Mission’s commitment, he stated, “The government will collaborate with you to ensure top-notch education for the children and youth of our state.”
