Bhubaneswar, Nov 20 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, has called upon all District Superintendents of Police (SPs) in the state to concentrate on eight critical areas to enhance policing services for the citizens.
During the closing ceremony of a two-day conference for District Collectors and SPs held at the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, CM Majhi urged the SPs to develop targeted strategies aimed at increasing conviction rates and consider the establishment of an Investigation and Prosecution wing where necessary.
He emphasized the importance of logging every complaint received at police stations and taking corrective action against officers who neglect this duty, alongside conducting regular visits to police stations.
CM Majhi highlighted the need for District Collectors and SPs to operate as a cohesive unit, advocating for a zero tolerance policy towards corruption and setting a personal example of integrity to avoid harassing any innocent citizen.
He recommended that SPs provide training to police station officers on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, while also embracing technology to ensure police personnel stay ahead of criminal activities in knowledge and skills.
In his remarks, the Chief Minister also encouraged police officers to operate without external pressures, ensuring that genuine offenders are apprehended and prosecuted according to the law. He mentioned that the collaboration between the Collector and SP is essential for effective governance.
CM Majhi added that both Collectors and SPs must guarantee that development and security progress in tandem within their districts.
Expressing his approval of the recent achievements of the Odisha Police, he stated, “Our Government prioritizes maintaining law and order and tackling crime. Since taking office, the State Police has gained recognition by resolving critical cases swiftly through effective operations. Significant measures have been initiated to strengthen, modernize, and reform the police system.”
Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed the SPs to ensure that citizens visiting police stations with grievances receive friendly and humane treatment.
He reiterated that service, protection, and assistance should be the core responsibilities of the Odisha Police. “Creating a peaceful environment alongside good governance is vital for realizing the vision of a developed Odisha and attracting investors. District Collectors and SPs must ensure that minor issues do not obstruct infrastructure project implementations,” he remarked.
Additionally, the Chief Minister urged for the acceleration of efforts to completely eliminate Naxal influence in Odisha by 2026, along with combating illegal drug trafficking, land mafia activities, and economic offenses, while ensuring robust collaboration with the Coast Guard and Navy to avert infiltrations.
