Moscow, July 14 (NationPress) A Mi-8 helicopter belonging to a private airline has vanished during its journey from the town of Okhotsk to Magadan, as reported by Russia's state-owned TASS news agency, citing emergency services.
"At the scheduled time, during its flight from Okhotsk to Magadan, the Mi-8 helicopter operated by Vzlet airline failed to establish communication," the agency quoted an insider.
In response to the incident, another Mi-8 helicopter has taken off from Okhotsk to conduct a search for the missing aircraft, alongside an An-26 aircraft dispatched from Magadan.
According to TASS, there are three crew members and two technicians aboard the missing Mi-8 helicopter. Initial reports indicate that these five individuals were en route to their destination after completing maintenance work.
The aviation unit of the Russian Emergencies Ministry has also initiated a search operation in the Far East region where the Mi-8 helicopter is believed to have gone missing.
In a related incident last month, a Mi-8 helicopter en route to the Smolensk Region was forced to make an emergency landing due to mechanical failures near the village of Shchetinino in the Rzhevsky District of Tver Region.
"The [Mi-8 helicopter] made a forced landing on a platform that was picked up from the air. Both the crew and the aircraft are safe," a source from the Tver Air Traffic Services Centre confirmed.
The Mi-8 had been flying from Zmeevo airport near Tver towards Smolensk to conduct a gas pipeline inspection when it made the emergency landing.
In another incident in June, an An-2 plane that triggered an emergency radio beacon went missing in Yakutia but was located later with no casualties reported.
In March, two fatalities and two injuries were reported when a Mi-8 helicopter crashed in Russia's Magadan region.
