Los Angeles, July 24 (NationPress) The highly anticipated biopic titled “Michael”, which chronicles the life of the legendary King of Pop, is now slated for a global release on April 24, 2026.
This film was initially set to premiere in October 2025.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and penned by John Logan, the film features Jaafar Jackson portraying his famous uncle. The production is led by Graham King, an Oscar recipient for “The Departed”, as reported by variety.com.
The synopsis states, “‘Michael’ delves into the global icon’s evolution to the King of Pop, offering a close-up on the life and lasting influence of one of the most significant artists in history.”
Lionsgate will distribute the film in the U.S., while Universal will take care of international distribution, excluding Japan, which will be managed by Kino Films.
Lionsgate's CEO Jon Feltheimer hinted in May that a delay to 2026 was probable.
Despite completing filming in May 2024, the project has undergone additional reshoots and faced a lengthy cut initially. There were previous talks about potentially releasing the film in two parts.
The film also features Colman Domingo and Nia Long as the Jackson family heads, Joe and Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller portrays John Branca, Jackson’s attorney and advisor.
Additionally, Larenz Tate plays Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records; Laura Harrier appears as music executive Suzanne de Passe; and Kat Graham features as Diana Ross.
Other cast members include Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark, KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Bill Bray, Jackson’s former security and confidant; and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, who met Michael when he was just 12 years old, as noted by variety.com.
In 2009, Michael Jackson tragically passed away from acute propofol intoxication in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 50. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, discovered Jackson unresponsive in his bedroom and attempted CPR, but paramedics pronounced him dead at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner later ruled Jackson's death a homicide, as he had been given propofol and anti-anxiety medications by his doctor.
Murray faced conviction for involuntary manslaughter in November 2011 and was released in 2013 after serving two years of his four-year sentence, receiving time off for good behavior.
