When is the Michael Jackson Biopic Releasing?

Los Angeles, July 24 (NationPress) The biographical film about the legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson, titled “Michael”, is now set for a global release on April 24, 2026.

Previously, the premiere was slated for October 2025.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, with John Logan as the screenwriter and Jaafar Jackson portraying his late uncle, this film promises to unveil the extraordinary journey of the King of Pop. Notably, Graham King, who won an Oscar for “The Departed”, is producing the film, as reported by variety.com.

The synopsis reveals that “Michael” will delve into the life of the global icon, exploring his rise to fame and the lasting impact he left as one of the most significant and pioneering artists in history.

Lionsgate will distribute the film domestically, while Universal takes charge of international distribution, except for Japan, where Kino Films will oversee the release.

In May, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer hinted that the film would likely be postponed to 2026.

Although production concluded in May 2024, the movie underwent reshoots due to an extended initial cut. There had also been talks about potentially splitting the film into two parts.

The cast includes Colman Domingo and Nia Long as family heads Joe and Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller plays John Branca, Jackson's attorney and advisor.

Additionally, Larenz Tate portrays Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, while Laura Harrier takes on the role of music executive Suzanne de Passe, and Kat Graham will appear as Diana Ross.

Other notable cast members include Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark, KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Jackson's former security and confidant Bill Bray, and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, who met Michael when he was just 12 years old, as per variety.com.

Michael Jackson tragically passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 due to acute propofol intoxication in Los Angeles, California. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, found Jackson unresponsive at his North Carolwood Drive residence and attempted CPR, but it was too late. Security called 9-1-1, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide, attributing it to the propofol and anti-anxiety medications lorazepam and midazolam administered by his doctor.

Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in November 2011 and was released in 2013 after serving two years of a four-year sentence with time off for good behavior.
