PM Modi Launches State-of-the-Art Semiconductor Facility in Sanand, Gujarat
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Sanand, March 31 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility of Kaynes Semicon in Sanand, Gujarat, on Tuesday, signifying the commencement of commercial operations at the site.
During his visit to the state, officials reported that the Prime Minister also examined the plant’s infrastructure and its operational activities.
The Sanand facility has been established with an investment of approximately Rs 3,300 crore and is equipped to perform semiconductor assembly, packaging, and testing, which are critical stages in the chip manufacturing supply chain.
This facility is part of the central government's extensive initiative, known as the 'India Semiconductor Mission', aimed at fostering domestic capabilities in this pivotal sector.
Production has already begun at the plant with the manufacturing of Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs), which are extensively utilized in electric vehicles, industrial systems, and energy-efficient appliances.
Each module consolidates multiple chips within a single package, enhancing performance and efficiency.
Once fully operational, the facility is projected to achieve a production capacity of around 6.3 million units per day.
The output will not only meet domestic needs but will also serve international markets, supplying global semiconductor companies.
During his visit, the Prime Minister received insights into the advanced packaging technologies being implemented at the facility, which are capable of handling intricate semiconductor modules.
He also engaged with officials and staff at the site, observing the cleanroom and the production lines.
The government anticipates that this project will generate significant employment opportunities and contribute to the development of a skilled workforce in high-tech manufacturing.
The Sanand facility is among various semiconductor projects being developed in the country to mitigate reliance on imports and boost value addition within India, following the inauguration of Micron Technology’s unit earlier this February.
This inauguration coincided with the Prime Minister’s full-day visit to the state, where he attended several programs.
