Bhubaneswar, March 16 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephone conversation with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday, addressing the devastating fire incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. In a post on his official X account, CM Majhi shared, “Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiji spoke with me regarding the unfortunate incident at SCB Medical College in Cuttack and we had an in-depth discussion.
“I updated him on the emergency actions taken for those affected, the evacuation process, and the specialized medical care being extended to them. I also informed him about the state government's initiation of a high-level judicial inquiry.”
Earlier that day, CM Majhi personally visited SCB Medical College to assess the situation and instructed the administration to provide all possible assistance to the families and patients impacted. He emphasized that all relevant departments and response teams were collaborating effectively to manage the circumstances and ensure proper care for the victims.
CM Majhi expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister for his concern and the promise of necessary support during this challenging time.
“I am thankful to the Honourable Prime Minister for his empathetic concern and assurance of support during this sensitive period,” CM Majhi wrote.
It is noteworthy that PM Modi expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the tragic Cuttack hospital fire incident and declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the deceased families.
Additionally, CM Majhi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh for each family of the deceased patients.
Reports indicate that the fire ignited around 2:30–3:00 A.M. due to a suspected electrical short circuit, leading to the fatalities and injuries.
