Mumbai, July 2 (NationPress) Omkar Salvi has been confirmed as the head coach of the Mumbai senior men’s team for the upcoming 2025/26 domestic season, as announced by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Wednesday. Additionally, Sanjay Patil will continue as the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee.

During the 2024/25 domestic season, Salvi's leadership led to a remarkable achievement, with Mumbai clinching the Irani Cup for the first time in 27 years and also winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, alongside reaching the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy. Salvi enters the new season with experience as the bowling coach for the IPL 2025 champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

“His remarkable coaching and leadership over the previous two seasons have significantly contributed to the team’s impressive performances. His talent for maximizing player potential has been outstanding,” commented MCA president Ajinkya Naik.

Furthermore, the MCA has appointed former left-arm spinner Ankeet Chavan as the head coach for the Mumbai Under-14 men’s team. Chavan was among three Rajasthan Royals players banned for life due to their involvement in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal.

Following the reduction of their ban to seven years, Chavan resumed competitive cricket in Mumbai with Karnataka Sports Club and subsequently passed his Level-1 coaching exam. Throughout his playing career, Chavan made 13 appearances in the IPL and played 18 first-class matches and 20 List A games for Mumbai.
