Meenakshi Natarajan spent the day meeting Congress leaders and legislators in Bhopal, projecting a picture of internal unity ahead of the vote. 'Whatever circumstances arise, we will face them strongly,' she said, framing the election as a broader struggle to defend democracy and the Constitution. Her remarks came directly in response to signals from senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, who had earlier indicated the party might field an additional candidate — a move widely read as a pressure tactic to trigger cross-voting among Congress legislators.

Vijayvargiya's suggestion of a third BJP nominee had sparked considerable speculation about electoral manoeuvring, but according to reports, the window for fielding such a candidate has effectively closed as nomination deadlines approach. Both parties are understood to have sufficient numbers in the state assembly to secure victory for their respective nominees, making any cross-voting attempt the decisive variable in this contest.

Congress Legislative Party Meets in Bhopal

A meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) was convened in Bhopal specifically to address cross-voting concerns and reinforce legislator discipline. Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar publicly reinforced the party's stance, stating: 'We will fight the elections with full strength and unity.' Singhar assured that all Congress MLAs were standing firmly together and that the party remained vigilant against any attempt to engineer defections or splits.

Shared Roots, United Front

Natarajan invoked a personal dimension to underscore the party's cohesion, noting that both she and Singhar had begun their political journeys in the Youth Congress. 'Today, Umang Singhar is playing a pivotal role as the Leader of Opposition, and together with all the MLAs, we will strengthen the party's fight,' she told mediapersons. The emphasis on shared history appeared designed to signal that personal bonds, not just party discipline, underpin the Congress bloc's solidarity.

Meanwhile, Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agrawal filed their respective nomination papers.
