Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 23 (NationPress) In response to ongoing speculation regarding the possible unification of the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party for the upcoming municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra, NCP-SP Working President Supriya Sule stated on Tuesday that she has not received any official proposal from either faction.
"Although various dialogues are being conducted, it would be premature to comment until a definitive conclusion is achieved," Sule remarked.
"To date, I have not received any formal proposal from any party," she added.
Sule confirmed that discussions regarding seat-sharing within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are nearing their conclusion.
"We are currently engaged in talks with Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena-UBT in Mumbai, with another meeting scheduled for today. Our main objective is to ensure that the MVA—comprising both Thackeray brothers (Uddhav and Raj Thackeray of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) along with the Congress—unites to avoid vote fragmentation," she stated.
She emphasized that the forthcoming municipal corporation elections will center around the interests of the NCP-SP workers and the public.
"The welfare of our workers and the development of Pune will be the primary considerations in our decisions," she noted.
"Our party adheres to democratic principles, and no significant decisions concerning alliances will be made without consulting our political leaders and workers," she added.
While addressing the media in Mumbai, Sule tackled recent rumors surrounding internal conflicts and potential political alliances.
Regarding the resignation rumors of Pune City NCP-SP President Prashant Jagtap, Sule commented, "I have not received any resignation from Prashant Jagtap, nor has State NCP-SP President Shashikant Shinde informed me of any such event. I had a two-hour discussion with Jagtap just yesterday."
The NCP-SP Working President reiterated that the party's focus remains on the people's welfare and the state's development.
Sule asserted that transparency and internal conversations will be the cornerstones of their decision-making as they approach the final stages of alliance negotiations ahead of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
Meanwhile, State NCP-SP Chief Shashikant Shinde announced that the party has resolved to contest the BMC elections as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
"Our Mumbai NCP-SP President and the party's Core Committee are engaging in discussions with all parties except the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena. Concurrently, we are also in talks with the Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena. We had a meeting yesterday as part of these ongoing discussions. There are minor differences and specific demands concerning certain seats. We will reconvene today to address these issues. After today’s talks, we are committed to contesting the Mumbai elections as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)," he added.
Shinde also mentioned, "During my meetings in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad to gather feedback, numerous party office-bearers and aspiring candidates expressed the necessity of forming an alliance with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction in those areas. Therefore, discussions regarding this took place yesterday. Today, we had initial talks with our office-bearers. While these discussions continue, we are striving for consensus on candidacies to ensure our members are treated fairly. A final decision on the alliance will be made thereafter."
