New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) The NDA will contest the forthcoming Assembly elections in Bihar under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, as confirmed by BJP sources on Thursday, eliminating doubts regarding a potential new CM candidate for the elections scheduled in October-November.

This choice to conduct the election under Nitish Kumar’s leadership establishes a framework for the NDA to enhance its readiness, exerting pressure on opponents by showcasing unity within the ruling faction concerning its Chief Ministerial candidate, according to party insiders.

The Bihar elections have gained attention following the BJP's success in the Delhi Assembly elections, with the NDA aiming to secure 225 seats in the 242-member Assembly.

In the 17th Bihar Legislative Assembly, the NDA holds a majority, possessing 125 out of the 243 available seats. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) stands as the largest party with 75 seats, followed by the BJP with 74 seats and the Janata Dal (United) with 43 seats.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has already entered election mode, initiating his 'Pragati Yatra' to assess development initiatives and to inaugurate and lay the groundwork for various projects across numerous departments.

On Thursday, he visited Gaya district, with 1,447 schemes from 44 departments scheduled for foundation laying and inauguration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also seemed to be engaging with voters in Bihar during the Delhi campaign by stating that the BJP is dedicated to the welfare of Purvanchalis, whether they reside in Delhi or Bihar.

On the same day, former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad intensified the political atmosphere in the state by asserting that he would prevent the BJP from forming a government as long as he remains active in state politics.

While addressing the media in Patna, Lalu Prasad remarked, "How could the BJP establish a government in Bihar while we are present? We will not permit the BJP to take control in Bihar."

In response to Lalu Prasad's comments, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha stated that the NDA, which includes the BJP, will regain control in the state.

"It is uncertain whether Lalu Prasad will remain, but the NDA is destined to form the government in Bihar," the Deputy Chief Minister commented.

He further criticized the RJD leader, saying, "Lalu Prasad has turned the term 'Bihari' into an insult, incited caste conflict, and fostered discord among brothers. Thus, individuals like him are no longer needed."

Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin stated, "May Lalu Ji have many more years to live; we will always wish him well. However, you will not obstruct the BJP government..."
