Guwahati, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Indian Railways is set to embark on a project to construct a new underground railway line aimed at boosting connectivity in the Northeastern states.
This line will traverse the Siliguri corridor in North Bengal, commonly referred to as the ‘Chicken’s Neck’.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, has announced that the underground route will connect Tinmile Hat to Rangapani and Bagdogra in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal.
According to Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this initiative is designed to ensure safe, dependable, and uninterrupted rail connectivity across this strategically important corridor.
The project will be overseen by the Katihar Division of NFR and will span regions in both Darjeeling and Uttar Dinajpur districts of West Bengal, as well as in the Kishanganj district of Bihar.
This underground line will measure 35.76 km in length, linking Dumdangi to Bagdogra, with a 33.40 km segment from Dumdangi to Rangapani. This alignment will offer robust connectivity through the 22 km Siliguri Corridor, which is critical for linking mainland India to the Northeast.
