New Delhi, May 30 (NationPress) As he concluded his two-day trip to India, New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters reaffirmed his strong condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and conveyed his nation's unwavering support for the people of India.
On Friday, Peters engaged with Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and the Bharatiya Janata Party's National President J P Nadda. Their discussions revolved around the democratic frameworks of both nations and avenues for enhanced bilateral collaboration, particularly in health.
“I met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand, Winston Peters, in New Delhi as part of our 'Know BJP' initiative. We had an insightful discussion on ways to strengthen party-to-party relations. I shared an overview of our party's ideology, organizational framework, and its contributions to India's development. Our conversation also prioritized the enhancement of India-New Zealand ties. I am eager to further our partnership for the mutual benefit of both countries,” Nadda shared on X following their meeting.
This marks Peters' third visit to India, having previously traveled in March 2024 and February 2020.
“India and New Zealand enjoy a warm and amicable relationship, grounded in shared democratic principles and expanding cooperation across diverse sectors,” stated a release from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). This visit followed the official trip of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to India in March 2025 and underscores the increasing momentum in their bilateral relations, characterized by regular high-level exchanges and a mutual dedication to their growing multifaceted partnership.
On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held in-depth bilateral discussions with Peters, addressing a wide range of topics related to trade, economy, defense, security, traditional medicine, sports, education, and people-to-people connections. They also exchanged perspectives on regional and global issues of joint interest while reaffirming their collective commitment to a free, open, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
“I thank New Zealand for its solidarity and support regarding the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Following the recent visit of PM Christopher Luxon, we evaluated the progress made in our partnership. In an increasingly unpredictable world, it is vital for India and New Zealand to collaborate closely for a rules-based, peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” the EAM posted on X after their discussions.
