Guwahati, Jan 19 (NationPress) The North East Regional Competition of IndiaSkills 2025–26 was officially inaugurated on Monday at Gauhati University, marking a significant step forward in the government's initiatives to enhance skill development within the North Eastern region, as stated by officials.

In his address, Chaudhary highlighted that the involvement of youth from all eight North Eastern states across various industry-aligned skill sectors showcases the increasing talent, discipline, and ambition emerging from the region. He asserted that such initiatives are vital for creating a workforce that is prepared for the future and enhancing India's competitiveness on the global stage.
The Minister further stressed that skill development should adopt a bottom-up approach, positioning young individuals as pivotal agents of change. He portrayed the competition as an inspiring platform designed to empower the youth of the region and equip them for forthcoming opportunities.
Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, expressed immense pride in hosting this landmark event, affirming the university's commitment to cultivating skilled, confident, and industry-ready youth from the North East.
The inaugural event also featured a welcome speech by Hena Usman, Joint Secretary, MSDE, and remarks from Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Principal Secretary, Government of Assam.
Cultural performances showcasing the rich heritage of the North East, alongside a march past by IndiaSkills competitors, were integral parts of the ceremony.
Students from all eight North Eastern states are competing across 26 skill categories, which include agro-forestry as well as advanced technical and soft skills.
Winners from this regional competition will advance to the national level of the IndiaSkills Competition 2025–26, adding to India's growing reservoir of skilled talent.
