New Delhi, March 30 (NationPress) The 'IndiaSkills National Competition 2025–26' has officially kicked off, attracting more than 650 competitors from across India to showcase their talents in 63 distinct skill categories.
This initiative, organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and backed by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), highlights the top talents identified from regional contests nationwide.
The purpose of this event is to foster skill excellence and cultivate a future-ready workforce that aligns with national objectives.
During her address, Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of MSDE, emphasized that events like IndiaSkills are crucial for motivating young individuals to engage in skill-based professions and to achieve excellence in their selected fields.
She also mentioned that India is gearing up to send a robust team to the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, underscoring the nation’s commitment to developing a globally competitive skilled workforce.
Manisha Sensarma, Senior Economic Adviser at MSDE, stated that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to establish a structured and industry-oriented skilling ecosystem, with participation from over 200 industry partners spanning various sectors.
NSDC CEO Arunkumar Pillai discussed the critical role of industry partnerships, asserting that the competition ensures that training meets real-world demands and global standards.
In this edition, more than 3.65 lakh registrations have been recorded from 36 states and Union Territories via the Skill India Digital Hub, highlighting the increasing enthusiasm among youth for skill-based careers, according to government reports.
The competition encompasses a variety of areas, ranging from traditional skills like electrical installation and electronics to modern fields such as cyber security, additive manufacturing, autonomous mobile robotics, and Industry 4.0.
Participants will be evaluated by industry experts based on criteria like precision, efficiency, and compliance with international standards.
Out of the 63 categories, 43 are being conducted onsite, while the rest are assessed through offsite formats.
The national competition's winners will represent India at the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai 2026. The event is set to continue until April 2.
