Jaipur, Nov 25 (NationPress) Speaker of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Vasudev Devnani, officiated the oath of office for newly elected MLA Pramod Jain ‘Bhaya’ at the Assembly complex on Tuesday. Jain took the oath in Hindi, after which Speaker Devnani extended his congratulations and best wishes.

The event saw the presence of Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully, numerous MLAs, Assembly Principal Secretary Bharat Bhushan Sharma, and other senior officials.

After the ceremony, Pramod Jain Bhaya addressed the media, stating, "Farmers in Baran district have faced three consecutive heavy rains and are still awaiting compensation. We protested a month ago under the District Congress Committee banner. Today, I am sending a letter regarding the large wheat crop this year, as the supply of urea is insufficient. Farmers are struggling to obtain urea, and if it is not provided within seven days, we will protest in front of the Garhpan Urea Plant on December 2."

He further added, "The residents of Baran district are suffering from pollution due to the Garhpan Plant, affecting both air and water quality. If farmers do not receive urea after enduring so much pollution, we will not stand by silently and will advocate fiercely for them."

The Congress party characterized Bhaya’s swearing-in as a critical event, highlighting the party’s unity and strength. Senior Congress figures, including former ministers and legislators, were present, deeming the occasion a "morale booster" for the party.

Opposition Leader Jully remarked that Bhaya’s presence in the Assembly would enhance the Opposition’s strategy. Describing him as “a robust mix of experience, struggle, and organizational acumen,” Jully suggested that Bhaya's voice would apply pressure on the ruling party from various fronts.

Pramod Jain Bhaya, a seasoned political figure in Rajasthan, previously served as a cabinet minister in the past Congress administration, overseeing vital portfolios like mining and animal husbandry. His election victory from the sensitive Anta constituency is viewed as a significant accomplishment for the Congress, having reclaimed the seat from the BJP.

Bhaya secured the Anta seat in the bypoll held on November 11, defeating BJP candidate Morpal Suman by a margin of 15,612 votes. The bypoll was triggered by the disqualification of BJP legislator Kanwarlal Meena, who faced a three-year prison sentence after being convicted for pointing a pistol at a Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

The Assembly Secretariat issued a notification confirming Meena’s disqualification as of May 1, following consultations between Speaker Devnani and the Advocate General along with legal experts. The Speaker had also requested information from Meena regarding any relief or stay from the Supreme Court. With no stay granted, Devnani proceeded to terminate Meena’s membership, leading to the Anta bypoll.
