Odisha: Farmers to Receive Crop Loss Compensation Within 5 Days, Minister Confirms

Bhubaneswar, Dec 23 (NationPress) Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari declared on Monday that the state government will deliver compensation to farmers affected by crop damage due to unseasonal rainfall within the forthcoming five days.
While addressing the media, Pujari stated that district administrations have been directed to carry out a thorough evaluation of the crop losses resulting from the recent unseasonal rainfall.
Additionally, he mentioned that district administrations have been tasked with enlisting officials from unaffected regions to assist in the assessment process.
"Officials from the revenue department have already begun on-site assessments. They have been instructed to finalize the evaluations within three days," said Pujari.
He urged farmers to remain calm, assuring them that the state government will cover the losses incurred due to natural disasters.
The revenue minister also emphasized that the assessment process is expected to conclude within three to four days, and compensation will be disbursed to farmers through district administrations within five days.
Pujari further pointed out that district collectors have been asked to aid farmers in selling crops that have not been entirely damaged.
He noted that Ganjam district has been severely impacted by the untimely rains.
Moreover, he clarified that all affected farmers, including those who have paid premiums under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), will receive compensation from the government in the form of input subsidies for their crop losses.
The minister added that insurance companies have been instructed to expedite the payment of compensation to farmers.
According to reports, the harvested crops of farmers in various coastal and interior districts—such as Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nawrangpur, Nayagarh, Puri, and Raygada—have suffered damage due to the recent unseasonal rainfall.
