Bhubaneswar, Feb 11 (NationPress) In a pivotal move aimed at fostering sustainable and citizen-focused urban environments, the Odisha Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UD) officially executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to enhance AI-driven governance in the region.
The signing event was attended by Usha Padhee, the Additional Chief Secretary of the H&UD department, who reaffirmed Odisha's steadfast dedication to utilizing cutting-edge technologies for better urban planning, service delivery, and data-informed decision-making.
As per an official announcement, the organization that partnered through the MoU will serve as the H&UD department's AI Innovation Partner, offering both strategic and technical aid for the design and implementation of AI-enhanced solutions throughout Odisha's urban landscape.
During the event, Padhee remarked, “Odisha is determined to create cities that are not only intelligently designed but also more compassionate, responsive, and inclusive. This collaboration will enable us to tap into AI’s potential to enhance urban services, fortify governance structures, and ensure that our decision-making processes are driven by data transparency and community needs.”
Meanwhile, the CEO of the partnering firm emphasized the necessity of collaborative innovation between government bodies and leading research institutions to ensure that AI solutions are impactful, scalable, and meet the requirements of the citizenry. He expressed ARF’s commitment to assist Odisha in crafting robust, responsible, and governance-ready AI applications for urban transformation.
The department has also highlighted that this collaboration is aimed at jointly developing and deploying essential AI solutions to tackle significant issues in urban governance, bolster data systems and digital infrastructure, and promote ecosystem mobilization through partnerships with research institutions, startups, and technology allies.
The MoU underscores a commitment to knowledge sharing and institutional capacity enhancement, ensuring that AI is utilized in a responsible, ethical, and transparent manner for the benefit of the public.
One of the key aspects of this partnership is the proposed creation of an AI Project Management Unit (AI-PMU) within the H&UD department.
The AI-PMU will oversee AI initiatives, facilitate implementation, develop standards, and enhance internal capabilities. The collaboration will also formulate a multi-year AI roadmap for Odisha, outlining sectoral priorities and scaling strategies for Urban Local Bodies.
