Did Owaisi File a Police Complaint Against Assam CM Over a Violent Video?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 9 (NationPress) AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi filed a police complaint in Hyderabad on Monday, seeking urgent legal action against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma over a disturbing video depicting him allegedly shooting Muslims.
In his complaint to Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, Owaisi accused Sarma of engaging in malicious acts aimed at inciting religious tensions and undermining national unity.
Owaisi took to X to announce his complaint against Sarma for his (now removed) violent video, which he claims is a direct incitement of genocidal hate speech.
He pointed out that Sarma has been consistently targeting the Muslim community through various platforms, including social media and public speeches, with many of his statements still accessible online.
“In recent months, Sarma has escalated his hate rhetoric, deliberately intending to outrage Muslim sentiments and foster hostility between Hindus and Muslims, fully aware that such statements harm national integration and communal harmony,” his letter stated.
Owaisi highlighted a recent post from the Assam BJP's official X account on February 7, which, although deleted the next day, remains visible on social media. The video reportedly shows CM Sarma appearing armed and targeting individuals clearly represented as Muslims, urging for violence with phrases like 'point blank shoot' and 'No Mercy'. This post was widely circulated across India, including within the jurisdiction of the police station.
Owaisi has called on the Commissioner to take swift legal measures against Sarma according to the law.
