Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 29 (NationPress) Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam stated on Thursday that there has been no decision regarding the establishment of a new political party for the upcoming elections. He urged both party members and the public to avoid being swayed by unfounded rumors.
Addressing reporters in Theni district following a private meeting with party officials, Panneerselvam confirmed that discussions are ongoing and that a clear direction will only be determined after gauging the feelings of the grassroots members.
The meeting took place at his residence in Kailasapatti near Periyakulam and included several party administrators from Theni town, union-level groups, and associated factions. “We have yet to decide on contesting elections independently. At this stage, spreading unnecessary confusion among the populace will only undermine our movement,” Panneerselvam remarked.
He emphasized that his primary goal is to restore the rights of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) members through legal channels.
“We are currently engaged in a legal battle to protect the rights of AIADMK cadre and will persist until justice is served,” he asserted.
Reflecting on his previous electoral bid in Ramanathapuram, Panneerselvam clarified that his intention to contest was to evaluate support among party members.
He claimed that six individuals were put forward using his name to orchestrate a fabricated political maneuver at that time. “We have been legally disputing such actions and will continue until the rightful claims of AIADMK members are recognized,” he added.
Highlighting the political legacy of Theni district, Panneerselvam noted it has produced legendary Chief Ministers like M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, and remains a bastion of the AIADMK.
“Our message is straightforward - all those committed to the principles of the AIADMK must unite under one flag. This meeting was convened to comprehend the aspirations of the people in Theni district,” he stated.
When asked about T.T.V. Dhinakaran's interest in joining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Panneerselvam mentioned that Dhinakaran is open to joining both the NDA and the AIADMK. “I am also prepared. However, the question of readiness must also be addressed by my esteemed brother Edappadi K. Palaniswami,” he commented.
Panneerselvam stressed that the AIADMK can only achieve electoral success if all factions, including his own, work together, reiterating that unity rather than division is his political goal.
