The footage, captured by a broadcast camera during the 16th over of the second innings, quickly spread across social media, prompting calls for disciplinary action.

What the Footage Shows

The broadcast camera briefly captured Parag with what appeared to be a vaping device shortly after he was dismissed for 29 runs off 16 balls — a knock that failed to capitalise at a critical juncture in the chase. The clip circulated rapidly, drawing sharp reactions from fans and cricket observers alike. The timing amplified scrutiny, given that Parag had just walked off the field after a missed opportunity in a high-pressure run chase.

BCCI Rules and Potential Disciplinary Action

While no explicit public rule specifically banning vaping inside dressing rooms exists, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) maintains strict behavioural guidelines for players within stadiums. According to health and safety protocols, the use of tobacco or related products in dressing rooms or dugouts is generally prohibited. These provisions, critics argue, could place Parag at risk of a formal reprimand or fine. As of the time of reporting, the BCCI had not issued an official statement on the matter.

The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the BCCI subsequently issued a show-cause notice to Bhinder, seeking his response within 48 hours.
