Sydney, Sep 10 (NationPress) Star fast-bowling all-rounder Ellyse Perry is optimistic that Australia’s significant depth in various departments will be crucial for the defending champions as they aim to retain the Women’s ODI World Cup title during the tournament scheduled in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2.
"We are very aware of the incredible fortune we have with the extensive depth in our squad, both in batting and bowling. We’ve actively shifted our approach to play aggressively from the outset and maintain that intensity for as long as possible," she stated.
"Of course, adapting to conditions and circumstances is essential, yet there is a strong ethos within the team to effectively leverage everyone's talents on any given day."
"It may often be one person's day, but if we can maintain consistency in that regard, we stand a great chance of achieving success more frequently," Ellyse shared with ICC before heading to India for a three-match ODI series leading up to this prestigious tournament.
Participating in her fifth Women’s ODI World Cup, Ellyse noted that the new players have integrated well into the Australian team. "There have been significant changes in our group over the past four years, but particularly in the last 12 months, we have had a relatively stable lineup with some truly remarkable young talents emerging as key contributors consistently in every match. This new team may look slightly different, yet it remains stable and well-established," she commented.
Australia will kick off their World Cup title defence against New Zealand on October 1 at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Ellyse also praised fellow fast-bowling all-rounder Annabel Sutherland for her reliability, mentioning that alongside Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll, they can significantly impact the tournament.
"Annabel has been exceptional over the past year, and it’s astonishing to realize how young she still is. Her performance, along with Phoebe Litchfield's and Georgia Voll’s since stepping onto the international stage, showcases the incredible young talent we have in the squad," she added.
"These young players complement the experience we possess. I’m confident that Annabel will have a fantastic tournament. She is continually working hard on her game. It feels like every Women’s World Cup becomes increasingly competitive, with higher stakes involved."
