Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 14 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Petroleum Ministry reassured the public that there is an ample supply of petrol and diesel at retail outlets nationwide. The ministry cautioned against storing fuel in loose or inappropriate containers due to potential safety hazards.
In a statement on X, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) confirmed that all petrol stations are well-stocked and emphasized that there is no fuel shortage.
“Petrol and diesel are sufficiently available at retail outlets throughout the country. Consumers are urged not to transfer or store fuel in loose or inappropriate containers, as it presents serious safety risks,” the ministry stated.
“It has come to our attention that a retail outlet in Tamil Nadu was dispensing petrol into a loose container, which is unsafe and should be avoided,” according to the MoPNG.
In response to this incident, the involved petrol station has been suspended, and appropriate measures have been implemented.
Authorities have instructed all retail outlets and dealers to adhere strictly to safety protocols while dispensing fuel.
The ministry warned that any breaches of safety regulations will result in stringent consequences.
Previously, the government urged consumers to refrain from panic buying of petrol, diesel, and LPG, asserting that adequate supplies are available nationwide.
No reports of fuel shortages have been received from any of the 100,000 retail outlets by oil marketing companies. A senior official from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry confirmed that sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are consistently maintained.
Currently, India boasts a refining capacity of approximately 258 MMTPA, ranking as the fourth-largest refining hub globally, the official added.
Furthermore, the government issued a Natural Gas Control Order on March 9 under the Essential Commodities Act, mandating a 100% supply of PNG and CNG without reductions.
“There is no reason to panic. Supplies to industrial and commercial consumers are being managed at around 80%,” the official stated.
