New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) On the occasion of Swahid Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on the courage exhibited by all participants in the Assam Movement, affirming that it will forever hold a significant place in our nation's history.

In a message shared via the social media platform X, he stated, “Today, as we observe Swahid Diwas, we honor the bravery of those involved in the Assam Movement. This movement will always be a cornerstone of our history.”

He further emphasized, “We reaffirm our dedication to realizing the aspirations of those who took part in the Assam Movement, particularly in enhancing Assam's culture and promoting comprehensive development within the state.”

During a review of the final arrangements on Tuesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the formal ceremony will commence at 11 a.m., followed by the lighting of the eternal flame at 4 p.m. as a tribute to the martyrs.

He described the inauguration as a pivotal moment, occurring nearly 45 years after the sacrifice of Swahid Khargeswar Talukdar.

“Tomorrow marks a momentous occasion for Assam. This is the first instance where the state government is officially honoring the martyrs on such a grand scale. The memorial will serve as a lasting tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of Assam,” CM Sarma stated.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the event will be broadcast live to all districts of Assam. As part of the statewide observance, the patriotic anthem 'Swahid Pranamu Tumak' will be performed simultaneously across every district.

Swahid Diwas has traditionally been a day of mourning and reflection, but the observance in 2025 elevates it to a new level of historical significance. Educational institutions and public bodies throughout Assam will participate in the commemoration, with the inauguration ceremony being streamed live to ensure widespread involvement. One of the most touching elements of the day will be the simultaneous rendition of the patriotic song 'Swahid Pranamu Tumak' across all districts. This coordinated tribute aims to unite the state in a shared moment of appreciation, contemplation, and remembrance.

The Swahid Smarak is not just a physical structure; it is a thoughtfully designed space meant to carry forward the memories of the Assam Movement. Architecturally significant installations will chronicle the timeline of the agitation, providing an immersive experience through the events, sacrifices, and aspirations that defined the movement from 1979 to 1985.

The Swahid Smarak will feature dedicated areas for public gatherings, educational initiatives, and cultural commemorations, ensuring it becomes a lively hub for learning and reflection, rather than a static monument.
