This summit serves as a worldwide platform for the Media and Entertainment industry, aiming to enhance the Indian sector by linking it with its global media counterparts.
Uday Samant, the Industry Minister, informed reporters on Monday that the event is being organized by the Maharashtra government.
“Mumbai, an international hub, is recognized as the birthplace of Hindi cinema. Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema, initiated Marathi films in Maharashtra. Consequently, Mumbai stands as the leading city in the country's entertainment sector. Moreover, Maharashtra has topped the charts in attracting foreign investment over the past three years. Thus, Maharashtra and Mumbai remain at the forefront of industrial growth,” he remarked.
He further added, “In terms of tourism, Maharashtra is on par with other nations. The goal is to showcase the state’s tourist attractions on a global scale. The central government has selected Mumbai as the city to elevate Maharashtra’s rich cultural, industrial, and tourism heritage to a worldwide audience.”
The minister also mentioned that officials and ministers from 33 countries, along with CEOs from 120 international firms, will attend the event.
Numerous prominent actors and producers from the Bollywood, Tollywood, and Marathi film industries are also expected to join. “This summit is a chance to present Maharashtra's cultural, industrial, and tourism sectors on the global stage,” he concluded.
According to sources from the state government, the vision is to make WAVES a premier global platform for the media and entertainment (M&E) sector, establishing India as a powerhouse of creativity, innovation, and content production. The summit aims to encourage international collaboration, attract investments into India's creative economy, showcase technological advancements, and strengthen the M&E ecosystem. It will focus on key sectors such as Film, Broadcasting, Animation, VFX, Gaming, Music, Digital Media, Advertising, Print, Radio, Comics, and related technologies.
