Jamnagar (Gujarat), July 12 (NationPress) The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), operating under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, proudly stands as the nation’s inaugural Ayurvedic institute to achieve the status of an Institution of National Importance. On Saturday, ITRA in Jamnagar, Gujarat, hosted its inaugural convocation ceremony, presided over by Union Minister of State for AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav.
In an interview with IANS, Jadhav expressed, “In 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an initiative to unify all Ayurveda-related institutions, leading to the formation of this specialized Ayurveda teaching and research institute. The remarkable work being done here is noteworthy. Four students from this institute have received the esteemed Padma Shri award. Graduates from ITRA are securing leadership roles in prominent Ayurveda institutions across India. Currently, students from approximately 68 nations are enrolled here, eager to join this esteemed institution. Numerous unique projects are being implemented here that are seldom seen elsewhere. PM Modi is dedicated to advancing Yoga and Ayurveda not just in India, but globally.”
The Union Minister also shared highlights of the convocation on the social media platform X, stating:
“It was a significant honor to be the chief guest at the first convocation of the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar. This historic occasion marks the onset of a new chapter in Ayurvedic education and research in India. It was truly motivating to engage with the newly graduated students, devoted researchers, and passionate faculty members, witnessing their enthusiasm and commitment. ITRA has emerged as a hub of national excellence by seamlessly blending traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific approaches. Such institutions are vital in fostering a thriving AYUSH-led India. Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all graduates for a successful future.”
The convocation was graced by the presence of Dr. Shekhar Mande, National Vice President of Vijnana Bharati, along with members of the ITRA governing body. The event was the culmination of extensive efforts led by Prof. Dr. Tanuja Nesari, Director of ITRA, and her dedicated team.
A total of 234 students received degrees, which included:
- 143 MD/MS (Ayurveda) doctors
- 35 M.Pharm (Ayurveda) graduates
- 2 M.Sc. (Medicinal Plant) students
- 33 Diploma holders in Ayurvedic Pharmacy
- 18 Diploma holders in Naturopathy
- 3 Postgraduate Diploma (Yoga and Naturopathy) students
International students pursuing Ayurvedic studies at the institute were also awarded degrees during the ceremony.
Exceptional students across five academic categories received medals, and two special medals were awarded for best research and best publication.
The convocation also featured the signing of two MoUs with national research institutions:
- CSIR–National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram
- Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (PCIM&H), Ghaziabad
