New Delhi, Sep 30 (NationPress) Praveer Ranjan, an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), has officially taken over as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Tuesday, as confirmed by an official source.
In his inaugural address, the newly appointed DG emphasized his determination to “equip the force for upcoming challenges through modernization in operations, compassionate welfare, and transparent administration.”
During a ceremonial event held at the CISF headquarters, he received a formal Guard of Honour and later engaged in discussions with senior officers, according to a statement from the official.
Belonging to the 1993 IPS batch from the AGMUT Cadre, Ranjan has been serving on Central deputation since April 2024.
A recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2016 and the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2009, he is now the 32nd Director General of CISF.
Before this appointment, he held the position of Special Director General, overseeing the crucial airport security operations within the force, as stated by CISF’s CPRO Ajay Dahiya.
With a commendable career lasting 32 years, Ranjan has occupied various significant roles, including Special CP/Crime and EOW in Delhi Police; DIG at CBI; and Director General of Police for Chandigarh, prior to joining CISF as ADG on Central deputation.
Ranjan holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Postgraduate degree in History from Delhi University, a Master’s in Police Management from Osmania University, a Master’s in Public Management from the National University of Singapore and Harvard University, and an LL.M. from National Law University, New Delhi.
Founded in 1969 under the Central Industrial Security Force Act, 1968 (50 of 1968), which began with only 3,129 personnel, the CISF has expanded to a robust force of over 1.61 lakh personnel, dedicated to serving the nation.
Currently, CISF operates 358 units that safeguard critical national assets, including 69 airports. Additionally, it comprises 76 other formations, which include 12 reserve battalions and 8 training institutes.
