New Delhi, Feb 25 (NationPress) Bollywood actress Preity Zinta took a stand against the Kerala unit of the Congress party on Tuesday, accusing it of disseminating false information and exploiting her celebrity status for its political gains.

This firm rebuke came in response to allegations concerning a bank loan associated with her from the troubled New India Cooperative Bank, which recently faced a significant collapse.

The Kerala Congress made claims on X, suggesting that the actress had transferred her social media accounts to the BJP and received a Rs 18 crore loan that was allegedly dismissed by the ruling party without adhering to recovery protocols.

“The bank failed last week. Depositors are left stranded, seeking their funds,” the Kerala Congress added in a post.

Preity Zinta dismissed these accusations, labeling the Congress' state branch as a promoter of fake news.

“No one has written off any loans on my behalf,” she stated on X.

Addressing the claim about her social media accounts, she urged the party to feel a sense of shame over their misleading narratives.

The actress also sought to clarify the situation regarding the bank loan, asserting that it had been fully repaid a decade ago.

“I hope this statement clears up any confusion and prevents future misunderstandings,” she concluded.

The mention of the actress arose when allegations of corruption involving the New India Cooperative Bank surfaced. The institution’s recent downfall led the RBI to impose stringent restrictions.

The RBI cited irregularities as the reason for these restrictions, which included prohibiting the bank from issuing new loans or renewing existing ones, along with barring it from accepting new investments or deposits, and selling its assets.

Reports indicate that around 80 employees were forced to resign from the bank in 2019, compelling them to approach the Central Bank for a forensic audit and the dissolution of its board.
