New Delhi, Dec 9 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge conveyed their best birthday wishes to Sonia Gandhi, the former Congress President, who reaches the age of 78 today.

In a message on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated:

"Warm regards to Smt Sonia Gandhi Ji on her special day. I wish for her continued health and longevity."

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed his sentiments, recognizing Gandhi’s enduring legacy and her impactful contributions. He remarked:

"I am sending my heartfelt wishes to Smt Sonia Gandhi ji, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, on her birthday. A genuine advocate for the rights of the underprivileged, she exemplifies grace, dignity, and resilience in the face of challenges. Her influence in public service has motivated countless individuals. I wish her a long and healthy life."

Additionally, Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, added his congratulations, stating on X: "Warmest congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Sonia Gandhi on her birthday."

Sonia Gandhi, recognized as the longest-serving President of the Congress party, directed the organization from 1998 until 2017 and remains a significant figure as the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party. She also heads the Coordinating Committee of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), the current ruling coalition.

Born on December 9, 1946, in Italy, Sonia Gandhi completed her initial education before enrolling in a foreign language institution, where she learned English, French, and Russian. It was during an English language program at Cambridge that she crossed paths with Rajiv Gandhi. The couple tied the knot in New Delhi in 1968, marking the start of her journey in Indian public engagement.
