Chandigarh, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Punjab government on Thursday announced the formation of a security operations centre aimed at safeguarding essential IT infrastructure, which encompasses governmental applications and websites.

This pivotal decision was made during the 19th meeting of the Board of Governors of Punjab State e-Governance Society, presided over by Minister of Governance Reforms Aman Arora.

The security operations centre, which will be set up with an investment of Rs 42.07 crore, will position Punjab as one of the leading states in northern India with sophisticated cyber security measures.

As cyber threats evolve and become increasingly widespread, the establishment of this centre is crucial. It will facilitate the real-time monitoring, detection, and response to cyber security incidents, thereby protecting critical IT infrastructure.

Following this meeting, the minister conducted a video conference with all Deputy Commissioners to review and discuss essential governance reforms and strategies aimed at enhancing citizen service delivery.

He noted that Punjab operates 538 Sewa Kendras and seamlessly delivers 438 Government to Citizens (G2C) services. The state has effectively reduced the backlog in citizen service delivery from 27 percent to less than 0.17 percent. The minister praised the Deputy Commissioners of Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Pathankot for their efforts in maintaining low levels of service delivery backlog, while urging all DCs to regularly monitor and review district-level backlogs to identify and eliminate bottlenecks.

Arora instructed the DCs to identify and address the issues with habitual delayers, who return applications without valid reasons and raise unnecessary objections. He emphasized the importance of providing clear remarks on pending applications to improve transparency and accountability.

In reviewing the online verification project for applications submitted by sarpanches, nambardars, and municipal councillors, he directed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that all are enrolled in the eSewa portal by the end of this month, thereby reducing the need for residents to make multiple trips for document verification.
