Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is set to visit Indore on 19 September 2026 for the fifth edition of his 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' initiative, a student outreach programme focused on education, government recruitment irregularities, and unemployment. Gandhi confirmed the visit through a post on social media platform X, inviting students to register and participate in large numbers.

In his post on X, the Raebareli MP extended a direct appeal to students across the region. 'I'm coming to Indore on September 19 -- to meet students, to hear you, to talk to you. If you or your loved ones are tormented by the education system and want these conditions to change, you know -- 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' is your collective voice, an opportunity to start the change,' Gandhi wrote. He also added: 'We will discuss in detail every aspect of education and your struggles in Indore.' Students were urged to register through the link shared in the post.

About the 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' Campaign

The 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' initiative has emerged as one of Congress's primary tools to engage young voters and students ahead of electoral cycles. The campaign has previously addressed issues including question paper leaks, the rising cost of higher education, alleged irregularities in government recruitment processes, and widespread unemployment among graduates. Four editions of the programme have already been held — in Kota, Dehradun, Prayagraj, and Pune. Notably, the Pune edition, held on 22 August, was organised exclusively for female students.

Venue Controversy and Logistics

The Indore programme has drawn attention beyond the student agenda, after the Congress was denied permission to use the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as the event venue. Following the refusal, the Madhya Pradesh Congress unit secured approximately 12,000 square metres of land in front of the Regional Park on a temporary lease spanning 17 to 19 September. The venue dispute has added a political dimension to what the party is framing as a non-partisan student dialogue.

Political Temperature Rises in Madhya Pradesh

Gandhi's scheduled arrival has already sharpened political exchanges in Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday criticised the visit, describing the proposed programme as 'Jhooth Ki Goonj' — effectively dismissing it as an exercise in falsehoods. The state's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's refusal of the stadium venue is also being read by opposition circles as an attempt to hinder the event's scale. This is the first edition of 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' to be held in Madhya Pradesh, a state that the BJP currently governs with a comfortable majority, making the Congress outreach here politically significant.
