Rajasthan: Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for the Rape and Murder of a Minor Girl

Jaipur, Dec 7 (NationPress) A court in Rajasthan's Ajmer has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a minor girl, as confirmed by an official on Saturday.
The accused, named Arshad, is from the Pisangan locality within the Ajmer district.
He had formed a friendship with a Hindu minor girl on Instagram, pretending to be of the same faith.
As their relationship progressed, he forcibly initiated sexual relations with her.
When the victim resisted, Arshad took her life by slitting her throat.
On Saturday, a Pocso court in Ajmer delivered the verdict of life imprisonment for Arshad.
Pocso Court prosecutor Vikram Singh Shekhawat stated, "Arshad established a friendship with the victim on Instagram, posing as a Hindu. Later, he led her to a remote area where he raped her. When she resisted, he murdered her with a sharp knife."
It was reported that upon discovering his true identity, the girl confronted Arshad, which led to the tragic events.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Arshad.
The prosecution presented 30 witnesses and 81 documents during the trial, with Shekhawat mentioning, "The prosecution sought the death penalty; however, the court decided on life imprisonment instead."
He added that the victim's family had lodged a case under multiple relevant legal sections.
