Known for his stellar performances in shows like Kasamh Se and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Ram will embody the character Armaan Mistry in this exciting new project, which is being developed for Disney+ Hotstar, according to reports from deadline.com.
Ram expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Armaan Mistry is a role that stands apart from anything I’ve portrayed previously. The entire journey of bringing Mistry to life was incredibly engaging – I’ve immersed myself deeply into this character, exploring his unique traits, intelligence, and vulnerabilities. This role resonates with me personally, and I’m eager for my fans to witness my transformation into Mistry on JioHotstar.”
Armaan Mistry is essentially the Indian adaptation of Tony Shalhoub’s Adrian Monk, who tackled unconventional cases with the San Francisco Police Department.
Joining Ram in the series are Mona Singh as ACP Sehmat Siddiqui, alongside Shikha Talsania and Kshitish Date Mulshi. The show is set to premiere on June 27 on the streaming platform, also known locally as JioHotstar.
This adaptation is produced by Banijay Asia in collaboration with Universal International Studios and is directed by Rishab Seth. It marks the first adaptation of the series featuring a detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder in South Asia, following a partnership between Banijay Asia and NBCUniversal Formats to remake shows for the Indian audience, as reported by deadline.com.
“Monk” revolves around Adrian Monk, a private investigator with obsessive-compulsive disorder and various phobias, alongside his assistants Sharona Fleming and Natalie Teeger. The narrative unfolds as Monk collaborates with the San Francisco Police Department to solve unique cases while also seeking justice for his wife's unsolved murder, delving into the personal lives and challenges of the characters.
Deepak Dhar, Founder & Group CEO of Banijay Asia & Endemol Shine India, remarked, “At Banijay Asia, we’re committed to crafting stories that entertain and push boundaries. Mistry epitomizes this vision, blending crime, humor, and heartfelt moments. It’s a character-driven narrative, and we have made every effort to ensure that our protagonist, Armaan Mistry, portrayed by Ram, resonates with audiences.”
Linfield Ng, VP of Format Sales & Production at NBCUniversal Formats, stated, “It’s thrilling to see an iconic format like Monk come to life anew, and with Mistry, we couldn’t have asked for a more talented team to bring this vision to the screen.”
