Mumbai, June 1 (NationPress) Director Rohan Sippy, who is currently enjoying significant acclaim for the fourth season of his acclaimed OTT series ‘Criminal Justice’, has praised Bollywood icon Aamir Khan for his trailblazing contributions to Hindi cinema.
In an interview with IANS, Rohan shared his admiration for the superstar, noting that Aamir is exploring the pay-per-view model for distributing his upcoming film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ after its theatrical premiere. Instead of opting for a subscription-based OTT service, Aamir has chosen to utilize the open platform of YouTube for the film’s digital release.
Rohan remarked, “There are always new avenues and possibilities; only time will reveal the impact of Aamir Khan’s initiative. He has consistently set trends in the industry. However, predicting its success in advance is challenging. I am confident it’s a quality film that audiences will be eager to see.”
He added that Aamir’s approach is not entirely unprecedented, recalling how the legendary Kamal Haasan attempted a similar strategy with his film ‘Vishwaroopam’, which was released on DTH using a pay-per-view model.
“The pay-per-view concept isn't new, but Aamir's execution through the Internet is innovative and has the potential for extensive reach. I remember Kamal Haasan tried this with DTH, but ultimately it didn't materialize. So, while it's not a fresh idea, the method certainly is,” he explained.
“That said, it's a concept that holds promise, and I hope it empowers producers to maintain independence and tell the stories they wish to convey. They deserve to benefit from their investments and creative efforts. However, the true measure of its success will only be revealed with time,” he added.
Produced by Applause Entertainment in collaboration with BBC Studios India and directed by Rohan Sippy, ‘Criminal Justice’ season 4 is currently available for viewing on JioHotstar.
