Ahmedabad, March 26 (NationPress) Approximately 50 residents were successfully evacuated following a fire incident that occurred in a residential high-rise located in Ahmedabad's Shela area on Thursday morning. Officials attributed the absence of casualties to the building's effective fire safety systems and the prompt response from emergency services.

The fire was first detected around 7:58 a.m. in flat C-302 on the third floor of the Sky City building, situated near O7 Road.

Fire department officials reported that flames quickly spread to the upper floors, and dense smoke filled multiple areas of the structure, necessitating an emergency response. “Due to the heavy smoke, nearly 40 to 50 residents were initially relocated to the terrace as a precaution. They were subsequently brought down safely via the staircase,” explained a senior fire department official.

According to officials, the building’s internal fire safety system was operational and played a crucial role in initiating immediate firefighting measures before the arrival of fire brigade teams. “The fire was contained effectively. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported,” an official stated.

In total, 18 vehicles were deployed during the operation, which included six 20 KL water bowsers, one 12 KL water tanker, a hydraulic platform, a mini fire fighter, eight first responder vehicles (Bolero), one first responder (Scorpio), and an ambulance.

Fire crews concentrated on controlling the fire and ventilating the smoke-filled building to facilitate safe evacuation. A total of 73 personnel participated in the operation, comprising 41 firemen, five jamadars, 19 drivers, three station officers, three divisional officers, one deputy chief fire officer, and one additional chief fire officer.

The coordinated efforts ensured that residents, including families located on higher floors, were evacuated without panic, avoiding any injuries. Fire officials indicated that the blaze originated from a single flat but spread upward, likely aided by the materials inside, though the precise cause remains undetermined.

“An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire,” the official remarked.

Authorities have stated that a comprehensive evaluation of the building’s fire preparedness and adherence to safety regulations will be included in the ongoing investigation.
