Senior Trinamool Leader's Remarks on Foundation Day Ignite Speculation of Party Infighting

Kolkata, Jan 2 (NationPress) A significant remark from a senior Trinamool Congress figure, West Bengal municipal affairs & urban development minister, Firhad Hakim, during the celebration of the party's 28th foundation day on Wednesday, has stirred fresh rumors in the political landscape of the state regarding the ongoing internal conflict over the “fresh blood” versus “old guard” debate.
At the central event marking this special occasion, Hakim, who also serves as the Mayor of Kolkata, emphasized that participating in the Trinamool Congress should not evoke a sense of entitlement or power.
“A legacy of sacrifices made by countless individuals stands behind it. The true essence of Trinamool Congress is not limited to leaders and ministers being driven in vehicles, receiving public salutes, and surrounded by 1,900 followers,” Hakim stated on Wednesday.
Nevertheless, he did not clarify whom he was referring to when discussing “leaders moving around in cars and receiving salutes”.
Interestingly, earlier that day, the party's general secretary and Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee, issued a New Year message that notably did not mention either the Trinamool Congress or Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, further fueling speculation about the alleged internal discord.
Political analysts believe that Banerjee's post, coupled with Hakim's pointed remarks on the party's foundation day and the start of the new year, may signal intriguing developments within the Trinamool Congress as it approaches the important state assembly elections in 2026.
Similar rifts within the party emerged last year on the foundation day following a series of statements and counter-statements between Trinamool Congress' state president in West Bengal, Subrata Bakshi, and state general secretary Kunal Ghosh.
