Assam's Seva Setu delivers 1.5 crore services, covers 800+ govt schemes online
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, 3 July highlighted that the state's Seva Setu digital platform has already delivered over 1.5 crore services to citizens, with more than 800 government services now accessible online — positioning it as one of the largest public service delivery initiatives in the state. The announcement came as part of celebrations marking 11 years of the Digital India programme.
What Seva Setu Offers
The platform has integrated 47 government departments and three Autonomous Sixth Schedule Councils under a single digital interface, enabling citizens to access a wide range of services without visiting government offices. It has maintained a service disposal rate of more than 90 per cent, reflecting a significant improvement in administrative efficiency across Assam.
'We are working to bring governance right at people's fingertips. Through the Seva Setu, Assam offers over 800 government services online with 1.5 crore-plus services already delivered by this platform in a major initiative towards improving ease of living for our citizens,' CM Sarma said in a social media post.
Grievance Redressal and Transparency
Beyond service delivery, Seva Setu has resolved over 94,000 public grievances, with an overall grievance resolution rate of 86 per cent. This positions the portal not merely as a transactional interface but as a structured accountability mechanism — a distinction that sets it apart from earlier e-governance pilots in the state.
DigiLocker and UMANG Integration
The platform has been fully integrated with DigiLocker, allowing users to securely access and store official documents digitally. It is also available through the UMANG mobile application, extending its reach to citizens who primarily rely on smartphones for internet access — a critical feature given Assam's still-expanding broadband footprint in rural areas.
Digital India Alignment and What Comes Next
Chief Minister Sarma described Seva Setu as aligned with the broader vision of Digital India, aimed at making government services more transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric. Notably, the platform's rollout coincides with a wider national push to reduce physical touchpoints in public administration. With 1.5 crore applications already processed and over 800 services live, the next phase will likely test whether last-mile digital access — particularly in Assam's remote and hilly districts — can match the platform's urban-centric momentum.
