New Delhi, Nov 6 (NationPress) After a remarkable match-winning display in India's groundbreaking 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup victory, opener Shafali Verma, one of the five players retained by Delhi Capitals, expressed that the atmosphere within the franchise has always resembled a family setting. She emphasized the desire to carry this sentiment into the upcoming 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season.
Shafali showcased her all-round brilliance in the ODI World Cup final versus South Africa, scoring 87 runs off 78 balls and taking two vital wickets. "The team has always felt like a family. If anyone is feeling low, another player is quick to lift their spirits," she remarked.
She added, "This supportive environment has been a hallmark since our inaugural season, thanks to the collective efforts of the owners, staff, and management. We aim to maintain that spirit in 2026, striving to give our utmost, with hopes of lifting the trophy this time around," she stated in a video shared on the franchise’s Instagram account.
Jemimah, who scored an impressive 127 runs not out in the semifinal against Australia, voiced her appreciation for the unwavering support from the franchise. "This team consistently stands by one another. Whether in victory or defeat, we feel the backing and freedom to express ourselves, be it from the owners, coaching staff, or management," she noted.
"This is what distinguishes DC. We genuinely look out for one another and give our all. I feel incredibly fortunate. The past three years in the WPL have been the most rewarding of my life," she remarked.
Alongside Jemimah and Shafali, Delhi Capitals have retained international all-rounders Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp, as well as uncapped batter Niki Prasad, who led India to victory in the 2025 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
"This team is consistently welcoming from day one. We are determined to put on an exceptional performance and secure a win this time," Niki stated. The franchise is set to enter the mega auction with 13 slots available and a remaining budget of INR 5.70 crore, aiming to build a formidable squad for the WPL 2026.
