Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Jalandhar in Punjab on Wednesday, 1 October 2025, to headline the concluding event of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) 'Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra' — a statewide anti-drug campaign that has traversed all 117 Assembly constituencies of the state. The mega rally is widely seen as the BJP's most significant political mobilisation in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

The Yatra: Scale and Reach

Four simultaneous yatras, launched from different corners of Punjab on 18 September, have collectively covered nearly 4,000 km across the state before converging on Jalandhar for Wednesday's finale. What to Expect at the Rally

Around two lakh people are expected to attend, according to BJP leaders. The party has earmarked a 50–55 acre site — approximately 40 acres for the main gathering and the rest for parking. Nearly 2,000 buses carrying workers and supporters from across Punjab are being arranged to ferry attendees to the venue. The programme will also highlight the plight of families directly affected by drug abuse, the party said.

Home Minister Shah's visit comes as the BJP sharpens its political offensive against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, targeting it over its handling of the state's drug menace. The AAP, for its part, has maintained its commitment to addressing addiction. Notably, this is the BJP's most visible push on the drug issue since its 2022 electoral defeat in Punjab, and analysts see the yatra as an attempt to reclaim moral authority on a deeply emotive concern for Punjabi families.

State BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon and state in-charge Satish Poonia visited the rally venue to review preparations. The two leaders held discussions with officials on security arrangements, traffic management, parking, and public convenience. Dhillon said the Nasha Mukti Maha Rally is 'not merely a political programme, but a major public awareness campaign to free Punjab from drugs,' adding that 'every BJP worker is working with dedication, hard work and commitment to make the rally a success.'
