As she approaches her 13th anniversary in the industry, she reflects on how important it is to follow the guidance of music composers while creating film music.

Shalmali shared with IANS, “When performing a film song, you must fully surrender to the music composer and their artistic vision. If they permit you to incorporate your own style, then you can do so within the framework of their song.”

Before entering the realm of film music, Shalmali was part of a local band in Mumbai. She received her breakthrough opportunity to sing ‘Pareshan’ from ‘Ishaqzaade’ courtesy of Amit Trivedi while still in school.

She further elaborated, “Film music has taught me that emotional expression is crucial in music. Now, when I compose my own independent tracks, I apply techniques I learned from playback singing to convey emotions effectively. My journey has been incredibly fulfilling, as I have discovered something new and exciting at every stage.”

Shalmali also expressed her gratitude for the remarkable individuals she has encountered throughout her career.

She noted, “I have met so many extraordinary people; being around individuals with whom you can be your true self is invaluable. Reflecting on it now, the past 13 years have been the most eventful of my life. I hope this is just the beginning of my musical journey.”
