Subhash Ghai Discloses Laxmikant's Version of 'Om Shanti Om' Preceded Kishore Kumar's Iconic Recording

Mumbai, Dec 21 (NationPress) Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has recently disclosed that the late composer Laxmikant recorded “Om Shanti Om” before the legendary Kishore Kumar.
While on the set of “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa,” Ghai recounted an intriguing story, explaining how Laxmikant produced his own interpretation of the song prior to Kishore Kumar’s famous version.
Subhash Ghai shared this unexpected insight after being inspired by contestant Riya's stunning performance of “Om Shaanti Om.” Ghai expressed, “Riya’s performance was so exceptional that I felt compelled to give a standing ovation and enjoy her singing. This is a rare occurrence, as I am usually the one who encourages others to dance and sing; you did an outstanding job. I am genuinely amazed because I often assume that only a man can sing this song due to the way Kishore Da has performed it. The strength it possesses is unmatched.”
He continued, “Today, I wish to share a story about the creation of this song—originally, we were unable to secure a date from Kishore Da for this track, so Laxmikant ji himself performed it. He sang it so beautifully that everyone adored it. Many suggested his version should be released, but I preferred that when this song appeared on-screen, it should be sung by Kishore Da. When we filmed the song, it was initially recorded in Laxmikant ji’s voice. However, the very next day, I visited Kishore ji’s home and asked him for a recording date, as Laxmikant ji had performed it wonderfully. Kishore ji requested I confirm with Laxmi ji if he was comfortable with him singing the song. When I relayed this to Laxmikant ji, he graciously agreed, affirming that since I wanted Kishore ji to sing it, we would finalize and release his version. Even now, whenever I hear the song, I am reminded of Laxmikant ji.
“Sa Re Ga Ma Pa” airs every Saturday and Sunday on Zee TV.
