Bengaluru, Dec 2 (NationPress) Following their breakfast meeting on Tuesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar discussed plans to visit Delhi together. The meeting took place at Shivakumar's residence in Bengaluru amid ongoing leadership debates within the party and was a continuation of their previous breakfast discussion at the CM's house.
Shivakumar stated, “We enjoyed a delightful breakfast and talked about visiting Delhi. We also tackled issues related to the party and the government,” during a joint press conference with CM Siddaramaiah.
He further explained, “We covered the upcoming all-party meeting. We are nearly set to travel to Delhi on December 8 and return the same day to delegate responsibilities to our MPs.”
“With the recent Cauvery judgment, farmers are grappling with a maize crop crisis, and there are pending funds from the RDPR, Urban Development, and Irrigation departments for our state. It's crucial for our Karnataka MPs to take responsibility. We are also contemplating bringing opposition leaders to Delhi. We will proceed from here,” he added.
When questioned about a potential meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, Shivakumar replied, “They will need to extend an invitation first.”
“There are no differences among the MLAs. Only the media seems to be stirring up discord,” he pointed out. CM Siddaramaiah interjected, stating, “All our MLAs are united, and we will confront the opposition together.”
When asked if this unity would last beyond the Assembly session, Shivakumar assured that it would endure.
CM Siddaramaiah echoed, “This unity is here to stay. Shivakumar and I work together seamlessly, and we will continue to govern collectively. The high command will decide on the cabinet reshuffle.”
Reflecting on the breakfast meeting, Shivakumar shared, “I initially invited CM Siddaramaiah, who later invited me to his residence. After that, I invited him over, and we shared a joyful breakfast that tasted just like traditional Mysuru cuisine.”
The Chief Minister noted that Shivakumar’s wife is from Mysuru.
Shivakumar continued, “It was a pleasant breakfast where we discussed political matters. We need to make announcements regarding four MLC posts. We have been in touch with our party's National General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala. There was a dispute over one seat, but he mentioned further discussions were necessary. Simultaneously, we have sent our list, and this issue was also part of our discussions. We also addressed topics related to the Assembly session, our plans, and strategies for our MLAs to tackle opposition inquiries. We are prepared to respond to any opposition challenges,” he said.
“We are united in voice. We share the same ideology and thoughts, and we are ready to confront any challenges posed by the opposition. All our MLAs have a great opportunity to engage,” he added.
Earlier, CM Siddaramaiah enjoyed idli and 'natikoli saaru' (a chicken gravy dish) during the breakfast meeting hosted by Deputy CM and state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar.
Shivakumar’s brother and former MP D.K. Suresh, along with Congress MLA and Shivakumar’s loyal supporter H.D. Ranganath, also participated in the breakfast.
On X, Deputy CM Shivakumar stated, “I hosted the Hon’ble CM for breakfast at my residence today as we reaffirm our commitment to effective governance and the ongoing development of our state under the Congress vision.”
The breakfast meeting, held at Shivakumar's home in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, was significant amidst leadership discussions. Deputy CM Shivakumar is a strong candidate for the Chief Minister position. Both he and Siddaramaiah have expressed their intention to respect the high command's decision regarding leadership.
This meeting carries particular weight as the party aims to project a strong message of unity ahead of the winter session of the Assembly, scheduled for December 8 in Belagavi.
